Best AI plugins for Premiere Pro in 2026 (an editor's honest comparison)

Seven AI plugins compared by job — silence removal, captions, B-roll, multicam, AI agent — with what Premiere 26.5 now does natively. Prices checked 21 September 2026, written by the maker of one of them.

What Premiere Pro already does with AI in 2026

Start here, because it determines what a plugin is actually worth to you.

Premiere 26.0, in January 2026, added Object Mask — hover and click to mask and track a person or object — along with Media Intelligence, which searches across visuals, transcripts and metadata, and mask tracking Adobe describes as "up to 20x faster than previous versions of Premiere" (Adobe, January 2026).

Premiere 26.5, in September 2026, added the Generative Media Tool — video and sound effects from a text prompt, without leaving Premiere — and Paper Edit, which assembles a rough cut from the transcript (Adobe, September 2026). Text-Based Editing already deleted pauses and filler words in bulk.

So in 2026, buying a plugin for "AI in Premiere" in general makes no sense. You buy it for a specific gap Adobe has not closed: silence cutting with real audio thresholds, camera switching based on who is talking, animated word-by-word captions, choosing between generative models, or an agent that executes a request end to end.

How I judged them

Five criteria, in the order that matters after a month of use:

1. Does it act on the timeline, or export a file? A tool that hands you an MP4 to reimport costs you a round trip on every revision.
2. Local or cloud? Local means offline, private and free of per-minute quotas. Cloud usually means better models and a meter running.
3. Price per job you actually automate. $30 a month for one feature used twice a month is the most common mistake in this category.
4. How it undoes. Hundreds of razor cuts in the undo stack versus one reversible operation is a real difference on a client project.
5. Host apps. Premiere Pro only, or Premiere plus DaVinci Resolve.

The best AI plugin for each job

Silence removal and derush

Cheapest that works: AutoCut Basic, $9.90/mo ($6.60/mo yearly) — silence cutting only, 14-day trial with no card required. Free: PremiereCopilot, whose Smart Silences sits in the free tier behind daily limits. FireCut Starter at $19/mo ($10/mo yearly) covers silences and J-cuts and also runs on DaVinci Resolve.

Removing the retakes and the "let me start again" is a different job from removing dead air: it needs the transcript. FireCut folds repetition and filler removal into its Pro tier, AutoCut sells it as AutoCut Repeat, and our panel handles it from the AI analysis of the transcript. Captions

For animated word-by-word captions — the style that carries short-form — the two credible options inside Premiere are FireCut Pro (captions in 50+ languages, bundled with 25 hours of transcription a month) and our caption tool, which ships 80 styles and renders in ProRes 4444 with a real alpha channel, so the file drops onto the timeline transparent with no chroma key. Phantom bundles a captioner in its free tier's AI allowance, and PremiereCopilot has captions in its free plan with rate limits.

If all you need is plain burned-in subtitles, Premiere's own captions from Text-Based Editing are free and fine. Pay only for the animation.

B-roll and generative video

This is the category Adobe just entered. The Generative Media Tool in 26.5 generates video and sound effects from a prompt without leaving Premiere, which removes the basic reason to buy a plugin for it.

What a plugin can still add is model choice. Our B-Roll Studio exposes 18+ text-to-video and 10+ image-to-video models — Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Seedance 2.0, Sora 2 and others — reads the aspect ratio off your sequence and drops the clip at the playhead. AutoCut has AutoB-Rolls, FireCut bundles premium B-roll and music at Pro, and Plentake's B-Roll Editor plans and places stock footage, AI images and motion graphics on a credit system. If you only want stock rather than generation, Premiere's own Adobe Stock panel now browses "over 52 million clips (including 92,000 free ones)".

Multicam podcast

AutoPod, $29/mo, remains the reference: its Multi-Camera Editor "works for up to 10 cameras and 10 microphones" (autopod.fm). Above eight cameras there is no discussion to have.

An AI agent that executes

Everything above automates one operation. An agent takes a sentence and does the whole sequence of operations: read the transcript, place the markers, render the captions, import the media.

Our Ask AI is the one I can describe precisely because I built it: it runs Claude Code on your own machine, against your own Claude subscription, with no API key embedded in the plugin. It reaches 69 editing tools and is blocked from 19 others — it cannot write arbitrary files, run shell commands or reach the web. Ask "add whoosh SFX on every cut" and it does it, rather than explaining how.

The honest caveat: it requires a Claude subscription of your own, on top of the plugin. It is not a free feature, and if you do not already use Claude, the value is much lower.

If you want to spend nothing

Three genuinely usable free entry points, with different limits: Plentake's A-Roll Cleaner (silence removal and camera switching, permanently free, plus 200 trial credits with no card), PremiereCopilot's free plan (Smart Silences, captions, auto-reframe, auto zoom, chapters, with daily limits), and Phantom Editor's free plan (20 hours of AI minutes a month). Who each one is for

• The podcast studio, six cameras, weekly — AutoPod. Nothing else clears its camera ceiling.
• The freelancer who cuts everything — one broad panel: FireCut Pro, Phantom Pro or Black Hat Editor Tools Essentiel. Four specialised subscriptions cost more than one broad one, in money and in context switching.
• The editor working on Premiere and Resolve — FireCut or AutoCut. Everything else here is Premiere-only.
• Someone testing whether automation suits them at all — Plentake's free A-Roll Cleaner or PremiereCopilot's free plan, this week, on real footage.
• Someone already living in Claude — the agent route changes how the panel is used; without a Claude subscription, ignore that category.

Five things to check before you subscribe

1. Run the trial on your ugliest footage, not on a clean demo clip. Bad audio is where these tools separate.
2. Check the undo after an automatic pass. One reversible operation, or three hundred?
3. Count what you will really use. If one module out of eleven does the work, you are paying ten times over.
4. Check where the audio goes. Local processing means offline and private; cloud means quotas and uploads. It matters for client material under NDA.
5. Note the trial terms. AutoCut's 14 days need no card; AutoPod's 30 days run on monthly billing; ours needs a card and converts to Pro at $40/month unless you cancel.

The short version

In 2026 the right question is no longer "which AI plugin", it is "which job am I automating, and does Adobe already do it?" Adobe closed a lot of ground this year — transcripts, generation, rough cuts, masking. What is left is worth paying for: audio-level silence cutting, camera switching on who is speaking, animated captions, model choice for generation, and agents that execute rather than suggest. Pick the cheapest tool that covers the job you repeat every week, test it on your worst footage, and only go broad when you count three or four jobs.
