Your own subscription
Ask AI runs Claude Code on your machine. No API key in the plugin, no proxy server, no hidden cost. You use your existing Claude account (or your own ANTHROPIC_API_KEY).
Ask AI connects Claude to your Premiere Pro timeline. You describe what you want in plain English, the agent does it: cuts, captions, motion graphics, SFX, B-Roll search. It uses your own Claude subscription, no API key is embedded in the plugin.
Works with Premiere Pro 2018+ · macOS & Windows · 14-day trial
Three properties that set it apart from a generic AI assistant.
Ask AI runs Claude Code on your machine. No API key in the plugin, no proxy server, no hidden cost. You use your existing Claude account (or your own ANTHROPIC_API_KEY).
The agent reads the transcript, places markers, imports media, generates captions, builds motion design animations, finds and places SFX. It does not suggest: it does.
The agent cannot write files, run shell commands, reach the web or spawn sub-agents. It does not see your personal MCP servers or your CLAUDE.md. The client guard blocks attempts to exfiltrate the code or the license.
The "Install Claude Code" button in the plugin runs npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code. If Claude Code is already installed, this step does not exist.
Type what you want in plain English in the Ask AI field. "Add whoosh SFX on every cut", "Place an animated title at the start", "Color the clips alternately".
Claude reads your timeline, picks the right tools among the 69 available, and applies the changes. You see the result directly in Premiere Pro. The conversation persists between messages thanks to --resume.
Ask AI reaches every tool in the plugin through the MCP bridge. It can read the transcript and the AI analysis, place colored markers, import media, generate animated captions (13 ProRes alpha presets), build motion design animations through HyperFrames (HTML + GSAP rendered in ProRes 4444), search and place SFX, search images with background removal, generate images and videos through HiggsField, and drive the playhead.
Real examples: "put the footage back in script order" · "number my files in order" · "trim the first 10 minutes" · "add a little sound on every bullet point" · "place an animated lower-third with my name"
The agent runs with an explicit list of 19 blocked tools. It cannot write files (Write, Edit), run shell commands (Bash), reach the web (WebFetch, WebSearch) or create sub-agents (Task, Agent).
On top of the tool blocklist, a client-side guard (classifyClientRequest) filters requests that try to extract the plugin's source code, configuration files or license keys. The --strict-mcp-config flag keeps the agent from seeing your personal MCP servers, and --setting-sources project isolates it from your CLAUDE.md.
Blocked tools: Write, Edit, MultiEdit, Bash, WebFetch, WebSearch, Task, Agent, and 11 more
Not exactly. The plugin runs Claude Code, which uses your existing Claude account (OAuth sign-in). If you have a Claude Max or Pro subscription, that is what gets used. You can also pass an ANTHROPIC_API_KEY environment variable if you prefer per-token billing. No API key is embedded in the plugin.
The agent cannot write files, run shell commands or reach the web. It acts only through the MCP bridge tools (marker placement, media import, caption generation, and so on). Destructive operations like AutoCut back up the sequence automatically.
Claude Code is Anthropic's official CLI for Claude. The plugin installs it in one click through npm. It runs locally on your machine, no data goes through a third-party server (apart from the Anthropic API itself).
Yes. The plugin uses Claude Code's --resume flag. The agent remembers the context of the previous conversation. If you close the plugin or the agent sits idle too long (15 minutes), the session ends and the next one starts fresh.
No. The --strict-mcp-config flag limits the agent to the plugin's bridge only. The --setting-sources project flag keeps Claude from reading your personal CLAUDE.md. The agent is isolated within the plugin's perimeter.
Ask AI can drive every one of these tools by conversation.
