Install and connect Claude (once)
The "Install Claude Code" button in the plugin runs
npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code. Then « Connect my Claude account »: three clicks in all, from the chat. If Claude Code is already installed, only the sign-in is left. -

Type your request
Type what you want in plain English in the Ask AI field. "Add whoosh SFX on every cut", "Place an animated title at the start", "Color the clips alternately".

The agent executes
Claude reads your timeline, picks the right tools among more than 100 available, and applies the changes. You see the result directly in Premiere Pro. The conversation persists between messages thanks to
--resume.
Capabilities
What the agent can do
Ask AI reaches every tool in the plugin through the MCP bridge. It can read the transcript and the AI analysis, place colored markers, import media, generate animated captions (13 ProRes alpha presets), build motion design animations through HyperFrames (HTML + GSAP rendered in ProRes 4444), search and place SFX, search images with background removal, generate images and videos through HiggsField, and drive the playhead.

What the agent cannot do
The agent runs with an explicit list of 21 blocked tools: free file writing (Write, Edit), shell (Bash), web browsing (WebFetch, WebSearch) and sub-agents (Task, Agent). The only files it touches go through the plugin's tools (media renaming, when you ask).
On top of the tool blocklist, a client-side guard (classifyClientRequest) filters requests that try to extract the plugin's source code, configuration files or license keys. The --strict-mcp-config flag keeps the agent from seeing your personal MCP servers, and --setting-sources project isolates it from your CLAUDE.md.

Frequently asked questions
? Does Ask AI use my own API key?
Not exactly. The plugin runs Claude Code, which uses your existing Claude account (OAuth sign-in). If you have a Claude Max or Pro subscription, that is what gets used. You can also pass an ANTHROPIC_API_KEY environment variable if you prefer per-token billing. No API key is embedded in the plugin.
? Can the agent break my project?
The agent has no shell and no free web browsing, and changes no file outside the plugin's tools (media renaming, when you ask). It acts only through the MCP bridge tools (marker placement, media import, caption generation, and so on). Destructive operations like AutoCut back up the sequence automatically.
? What is Claude Code?
Claude Code is Anthropic's official CLI for Claude. You install it and connect your Claude account from the panel's chat, in three clicks. It runs on your machine; your requests go to the Anthropic API, and any media sent to an AI service leaves your machine.
? Does the conversation persist between messages?
Yes. The plugin uses Claude Code's --resume flag. The agent remembers the context of the previous conversation. If you close the plugin or the agent sits idle too long (15 minutes), the session ends and the next one starts fresh.
? Does the agent see my other MCP servers or my CLAUDE.md?
No. The --strict-mcp-config flag limits the agent to the plugin's bridge only. The --setting-sources project flag keeps Claude from reading your personal CLAUDE.md. The agent is isolated within the plugin's perimeter.
